Heat Transfer Fluids

Used in indirect refrigeration systems to take cooling from the primary circuit to the heat exchanger, heat transfer fluids are designed for industrial refrigeration and heating systems operating at low temperatures. Due to their properties they are able to operate at temperatures well below freezing whilst remaining fluid. Indirect refrigeration systems have found a growing number of applications as they allow a small primary refrigerant charge to be used. They are suitable for a wide range of applications from small chillers containing only a few litres to Snow Domes or large Industrial applications where tens of thousands of litres are used.

IDS specialises in supplying, from stock, several different types of high quality heat transfer fluids for cooling applications from the traditional glycols to the next generation of biodegradable fluids. Based on the cooling requirements and the freeze protection required IDS are able to give advice on the choice of fluid available.

1. Glycol for refrigeration and HVAC applications (MEG & MPG)

Friogel (MPG) and Neutragel (MEG) have been designed for use in industrial refrigeration and heating systems operating at low temperatures. These products should be diluted in water to provide protection against scale, rust and oxidation. They can be supplied, as 100% or pre-diluted with demineralised water, in Bulk tanker, 1000 Litre IBC's, 200 Litre, 60 Litre and 25 Litre drums. The dilution percentage depends upon the required protection temperature. It is vital to the longevity of a system that the appropriate corrosion inhibitors are present in glycols. Those used in Friogel and Neutragel are stable and do not contain Nitrate, Amine or Phosphate. Different colours are used to allow easy identification and an early indication of any leakage. IDS have been supplying both these products to many satisfied customers for a number of years.

Friogel
Friogel is our registered trade name for MonoPropylene glycol with the appropriate corrosion inhibitors specially designed for refrigeration circuits working at  temperatures below 0ºC . Friogel is suitable for use in such systems in food factories.

Neutragel
Neutragel is our trade name for Monoethylene glycol with the appropriate corrosion inhibitors, designed for low temperature industrial cooling installations and central heating systems using water circulation. Due to the properties of Monoethylene glycol it should not be used in food factories.

2. Temper® – A Glycol Free heat transfer fluid

Temper®
Temper is supplied ready-to-use in a range of pack sizes, or in Bulk if required. It is available in five strengths (-10, -20, -30, -40, -55 ºC) where the designation indicates the level of freezing protection. Made of two specific salts in water solution, together with unique anti-corrosion and lubricating additives, the product is non-flammable and biodegradable. Supplied pre-mixed, its unique additives assure an excellent protection against frost and metal corrosion. Temper is composed of renewable raw products. It is biodegradable, non-toxic and does not contain any amines, nitrites or phosphates. In addition, Temper contains unique inhibitors giving excellent protection against corrosion.
Temper can be used in refrigerating plants within the food sector, heat pumps, heat recovery systems, ice rinks, and for use as a cooling medium and cooling carrier within all the other industry sectors. Temper is flexible and can be used in freezing applications down to -55 ºC, and at the "hot side" - in for example solar collector plants - up to +180 ºC (pressurised). The viscosity of Temper is low even at low temperatures, and this means reduced energy consumption for the whole plant, if compared with the use of glycols as cooling media. The high heat capacity and heat transfer properties of Temper, means reduced liquid flows and - as a consequence - smaller dimensions. In other words installation costs would be lower with Temper as opposed to Glycols.

3. Thermera ® 'The natural alternative to glycol'

Thermera® is an innovative heat transfer fluid based on water and betaine, a co-product obtained from the sugar manufacturing process. It offers many advantages over traditional products. The standard products delivered are Thermera® AC and Thermera® R.

To see the product brochure please click here

Thermera® is designed for use in closed circuits operating within the temperature range of -45°C and + 100°C. As it is non-toxic, safe and environmentally acceptable, it is suitable for a wide range of applications in particular in food processing applications. Thermera can also meet the needs of HVAC systems in buildings and industry particularly where health factors in addition to environmental aspects are important.

In the correct areas of application Thermera's thermal performance has been found equal to that of conventional heat transfer fluids. Moreover, Thermera offers the additional advantages of excellent cold-flow and anti-corrosive features. It is possible to convert existing systems to run on Thermera.
