HCFC Transitional Refrigerants
HCFCs (Hydrochlorofluorocarbons) have been used for many years and more recently as replacements for CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons). HCFCs however, like CFCs also have an Ozone depletion Potential (ODP) and their use is already banned in many applications and in new equipment. The use of virgin HCFCs for servicing and maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment will be banned in European Union countries from 01/01/2010 under EC regulation 2037/2000 (see legislation). Many companies have now replaced their HCFC refrigerants either by selecting new equipment or by converting existing equipment to non ozone depleting alternatives.
A number of direct replacements for HCFCs are available and we recommend you look at the DuPontTM ISCEON® 9 Series Refrigerant range to find the appropriate one for your application.
For further specific advise on individual applications please go to the IDS contact page and send us details of the application you are looking to replace.
